Is the child character floating? Or are they standing on a pedestal, or does the male character not have legs? I'd work on setting up your scene before you start animating the characters.

I like this 2D animation, it looks very traditionally hand drawn, and I enjoy that, the animation lacks some principles, but with a bit more time you could have made something great!
