I like the layout a lot. One thing that was somewhat distracting for me though was that shadow looks like it's impaling his forehead. Also, I keep waiting for him to look at me and that tension is never resolved. But nice subtle head movements.

Face feels a bit stiff at the end, and there aren't that many gestures to speak of, but given the setting and character setup, I think the latter issue fits. Great facial animation and story.
